Description
A blood pressure monitor, also known as a sphygmomanometer or blood pressure gauge, is a device that measures blood pressure. It consists of an inflatable cuff that collapses and then releases the artery under the cuff in a controlled manner, and a mercury or aneroid manometer to measure the pressure. Doctors use sphygmomanometers, which are more often referred to as blood pressure cuffs, to measure blood pressure. The cuff is wrapped around the upper arm and inflated to stop the flow of blood in the artery.
